So many people have asked “Can you cook pasta right in the sauce in the Instant Pot?”, and the answer is yes! You can cook the sauce and pasta together at the same time in an Instant Pot! Here’s how! We call this a Costco recipe because we use one or more ingredients from Costco, but of course you don’t have to. We also call this a quarantine recipe, which means that all of the ingredients are shelf-stable so you don’t have to go to the store for any perishable ingredients.

First, if you are new to the Instant Pot (or another digital electronic pressure cooker), we encourage you to read our Getting Started with the Instant Pot – a Quick Start Guide (which has now been read by almost 30,000 people – wow!) The nice thing about this recipe is that it is so darned easy, and you end up with a complete main dish! That’s because you can throw all sorts of things into the pot along with the pasta and sauce; in our example we added canned sliced mushrooms (also from Costco), sliced green olives, and canned peas.
And if you’re just thinking about getting an Instant Pot, this is the Instant Pot that we have. The nice thing about this model is that it’s tried and true, and it’s not the latest one, so it’s only $89!
Let’s talk about pasta for a minute. There are so many different brands and varieties of gluten-free pasta on the market now (which is a wonderful thing)! Each of them comes with their own texture, their own cooking times, and their own idiosyncrasies. What this means is that what timing and liquid content works for one gluten-free pasta may make another too mushy, or too al dente. If this happens to you, don’t be disheartened, just adjust the timing or how much water you add (this will make sense when you read the recipe) the next time.
Thank you! ❤️

Instant Pot Gluten-Free Vegan Pasta Cooked Right in the Sauce!
Ingredients
1 24-28 ounce jar pasta sauce (we use either the Bertolli’s or the Rao’s from Costco)
2 cups of gluten-free uncooked macaroni (we use the quinoa macaroni from Costco) OR 1 8-ounce box of pasta
1 3/4 cup water
Any additional fixin’s you like, such a a small can of sliced mushrooms (drained), etc..
Directions
Pour the sauce into the bottom of your Instant Pot (er, the inner pot, not the outer housing 🙂 ). Now add the dry, uncooked pasta, giving it a stir or two (just enough to distribute it evenly, no more). Pour the water on top, and then add any fixings right on top.
Everything together about to be cooked in the Instant Pot
Seal the Instant Pot and set to manual pressure for 5 minutes. Let pressure release naturally (this is called “NPR” for natural pressure release) for at least 15 minutes
Open the pot carefully, stir and serve! This also keeps well in the fridge for a few days, and reheats in the microwave beautifully!
