Do you juice? We do, and we love it! We also love using our juicer to make yummy foods like nut butter! Depending on the type of juicer you have, you may or may not be able to make an amazing and homemade batch of nut butter. Hopefully you have one that’s powerful enough, and has the right design, to create nut butter amazingness. But, if you don’t, there’s hope if you have a Vitamix.

How to Make Homemade Nut Butter with Your Gear Juicer

It’s easy to make nut butter with a gear juicer, and it’s so much fun to see the nuts being transformed into a delightful treat! Single-gear juicers do a pretty good job of grinding nuts into nut butter, but double-gear juicers get through the process much better.

Some centrifugal juicers have a special homogenize function that’s also good for making nutty spreads. And the trusty Vitamix, while not a juicer, has the power needed to turn nuts into butter without any issues.

UPDATE: The newish Ninja Foodi Bowl Blender is phenomenal at making nut butters! It’s also what we use for our super-easy fat bombs!

Once you’ve decided to make nut butter and you have the right equipment, think about what kind of spread you’d like to create. Will it be peanut or almond butter, or something really special like hazelnut or cashew butter?

Do you want it plain, lightly salted, or flavored in some way? Play around making homemade nut butters and try recipes for creating cinnamon, cacao, or even raisin nut butter.

This is the basic recipe we love for making nut butter in our juicer. Note that the oil adds a special creaminess, and is optional unless your nuts simply won’t smooth out into a smooth butter, then you will really need to add a little bit of oil.

Homemade Nut Butter Made in Your Juicer

1 cup of nuts
Salt to taste, if any
Anything else you want to mix in
Optional: Up to 2 tablespoons of oil (peanut, vegetable, or coconut oil)

To make your nut butter, follow the directions in your juicer’s instruction guide. If you don’t have a recipe book or instruction guide for your juicer, look on the manufacturer’s website for suggestions on turning nuts into nut butter, or do an Internet search for “nut butter in {your brand of juicer}”. This may seem like a cop-out, but there are so many different juicers out there that one set of directions doesn’t fit all.
