Our recipe for vegan Greek frappe will astound you if you’ve never made or had a Greek frappe before. Now, if you’re from certain parts of the U.S. you may think of a frappe as the same thing as a milkshake, but a Greek frappe is nothing like that. A Greek frappe is an amazing, foamy, refreshing iced coffee drink!

And the ingredients couldn’t be simpler! Instant coffee, water, and ice cubes (ah, but it’s what you do with them!). Optional ingredients are sugar or sweetener, and some kind of (vegan) milk. Now, a true Greek frappe, to be completely authentic, uses Nescafe instant coffee. We didn’t use that for our recipe because a) we didn’t have any on hand, and b) we did have this great organic decaf instant coffee on hand. We’re trusting you not to tell on us. :~)

The secret to the Greek frappe is frothing the instant coffee crystals and some water (and sugar if you like). Yes, we were dubious at first as well, but look!:

To make this you do need a handheld frother (one of those battery-operated things with a spring at the end that one usually uses to whiz milk to make it all frothy).

Once you’re done frothing your instant coffee and water, you put it in the bottom of a glass, add a little bit of some kind of milk if you want, top if off with more cold water and a few ice cubes, and voila! A very refreshing and rejuvenating beverage!

Vegan Authentic Greek Frappe Recipe

Ingredients

1-2 teaspoons instant coffee crystals or powder (Nescafe is most authentic)
0 to 2 teaspoons sugar, depending on taste
0 to 2 Tablespoons soy or almond milk or 0-1 Tablespoon vegan evaporated milk, depending on taste
2-4 ice cubes
Cold water

Directions

Put the coffee crystals at the bottom of a glass. If you are going to add sugar, add it now. Then add just enough water to cover the crystals, and then add about a tablespoon more on top. Froth the coffee crystals and water (be careful, you’ll be amazed at how fast this thing grows!)

Put the coffee froth in the bottom of a tall glass or other large glass drinking receptacle. Add any milk you may want to use, and then cold water to just near the top. Drop in a few ice cubes, and voila! Enjoy!
