Beyond Meat, the revolutionary vegan meat alternative, has announced that the Rocky Mountain region is the newest area to start offering Beyond Meat. Encompassing Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Kansas, the veggie world is abuzz, as vegetarians in those regions make a mad dash for their nearest Whole Foods store.

The Maryland-based company was founded by animal-lover, Ethan Brown. Brown grew up on the family farm before becoming vegan, and once he started trying other meat alternatives on the market, he realized there weren’t many that were very good. He began production of a new type of vegan meat that was made from soy, pea powder, carrot fiber and gluten-free flour. All of the healthy goodness is mixed together, poured into huge machines on Brown’s non-animal farm, and extruded in a way that looks and feels very much like real chicken. Their plan is to eventually roll out fake beef and pork products, once the chicken products are fully launched.

Don’t expect to run down to Whole Foods and buy a box of Beyond Meat just yet. So far they are launching it via Whole Foods prepared foods. If you aren’t familiar with Whole Foods, the prepared foods section is what would be the “deli” section of most mainstream supermarkets. There is a display case with pre-made salads and other side dishes. Beyond Meat can be found in Whole Food’s chicken tarragon salad, chicken curry salad and chicken Cesar salad, to name a few. Beyond Meat will eventually roll out unprepared options for us cooks who like to prepare things our way!
